Growing Interest

In recent years, critics and historians, such as Simon Sadler at the University of California, Davis, have taken a new look at Drop City.  Yet no documentary film about Drop City has been produced, despite the striking visual power of its art and architecture and the compelling stories of its residents.  The Droppers displayed endless ingenuity as they redefined the hard scrabble reality of the Western frontier. This film tells a story of whimsical innovation and the drive to create a new community on the scrapheap of a wasteful society.

Film Production

Drop City is a feature-length documentary film about an experimental community that blended practices of art, architecture, and sustainable living in ways that came to define a global counterculture.

This project is in production and most of our filming will be complete by the fall of 2009.

We also have acquired extensive film footage and photographs of Drop City that never have been seen publicly.
